Refugee sponsorship
The Private Sponsorship of Refugees program allows Sponsorship Agreement Holders like Jane Alliance Neighbourhood Services to sign agreements with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to support refugees from abroad.
How the program works
As a designated SAH, Jane Alliance manages the complete private sponsorship process within strict federal allocation limits, focusing mainly on protecting vulnerable refugees and their families fleeing crisis and persecution.
We work closely with co-sponsors, sponsoring groups, families, friends, and volunteers to set up detailed pre-arrival settlement plans, ensuring that complete practical, financial, and emotional supports are ready before the newcomers land. Once they arrive in Canada, we work directly alongside them to help them realize their full potential and become contributing members of an inclusive society.
The role of co-sponsors
Because privately sponsored newcomers do not receive government financial assistance, our co-sponsors must prove they have the long-term capacity to sustain this care for at least one full year.
Arriving newcomers often carry deep trauma from conflict, and amidst today’s housing crisis and high cost of living, co-sponsors play a vital role in helping them secure housing and navigate provincial health care and community integration.
Current capacity
Because the rules are highly complex and our annual spots are strictly limited by the government, Jane Alliance might not be able to respond to the overwhelming number of inquiries from those hoping to sponsor friends and family at this time, though we deeply appreciate your understanding during these challenging circumstances.
