FOOD PROJECT

Food Project

JANS Food Bank
Hunger is an extensive issue in many parts of the world. Even in our comparatively prosperous Canadian society, 1 in 7 Canadian households need supplemental emergency food support as many of them have lost their jobs source of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, at JANS, Thinking of Elders food program is dealing with new challenges imposed by social distancing. Through our food bank, we make a significant and possibly life saving difference in the lives of the less fortunate in our community by helping provide them with adequate and healthy food.
JANS food program is a community-run service, which was initiated in September 2020. We provide food to help vulnerable people within our specific Toronto region of Rockcliffe-Smythe. The goal of our program is to be a resource for poverty-stricken people who cannot afford to feed themselves or their families due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
JANS food project is essentially a community-supported program, which is completely dependent on donations of non-perishable foods. With the support of Daily Bread Food Bank, we organize a recurring food collection. Our clients must register with the Daily Bread Food Bank to receive a client ID and meet our registration criteria. Due to limited resources, clients may use our food bank only twice a month. This allows us to give help to all as many impoverished families as possible who are registered with this service.
